About Oxford

Oxford – home to the world famous Oxford University, J.R.R Tolkien, Radiohead, the Mini Cooper and so much more.  Packed with over a thousand years of history you will never be short of sites to see!

The city is famous for its University and each of the 38 colleges has its own unique character.  Christ Church College is a must-see. You can follow the footsteps of the world’s most famous wizard, Harry Potter, in a real Hogwarts- many of the scenes in the films were shot in the college.

Oxford is known as the ‘The City of Dreaming Spires’ and the architecture around the city is stunning. Don’t miss Oxford Castle, built in 1071 for William the Conqueror, and Blackwell’s Book Store, the biggest book shop in Europe.

With a diverse population, modern culture hasn’t been forgotten. You can eat Jamaican, Japanese or Jaipur along the Cowley Road. There are venues and gigs across the City and a pub for every palate. Modern Art Oxford is a fabulous space to see contemporary art or, if you’re looking for an eclectic mix of classic art from all over the world, visit the Ashmolean Museum. The wonderful Pitt Rivers Museum is an Aladdin’s cave of treasures waiting to be discovered – don’t miss the shrunken heads!

But if history, art, architecture and authors leave you yawning – never fear. With over 15 hours of daylight every day of the OLX weekend, we’re optimistic that the sun will shine! Oxford has some beautiful outdoor spaces and you can choose from punting on the River Cherwell, picnicking in University Parks or climbing the slope of the South Parks to see the Dreaming Spires in their full glory! Don’t forget your camera!
